WAIFUS & veWAIFUS FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is WAIFUS?
WAIFUS is the governance token of the Yu DAO. It is a fixed-supply BRC20 token used for vote-locking, governance participation, and incentive alignment within the Yuzo ecosystem.
What is veWAIFUS?
veWAIFUS stands for vote-escrowed WAIFUS. It represents WAIFUS tokens that have been locked for governance. veWAIFUS is non-transferable and provides voting power in the Yu DAO.
What is the purpose of WAIFUS?
WAIFUS is used to:
Participate in governance via vote-locking
Direct gauge emissions
Access boost multipliers in eligible vaults
Most utility requires converting WAIFUS into veWAIFUS through locking.
How do I obtain WAIFUS?
WAIFUS can be acquired through:
Holder airdrops
Staking participation
Public distribution events
Secondary market trading
See the Supply & Distribution page for full allocation details.
What is the total supply of WAIFUS?
WAIFUS has a fixed supply of 21,000,000 tokens. No additional tokens can be minted.
What is the circulating supply?
Circulating supply depends on distribution phase and lock status. Locked WAIFUS are not considered circulating while vote-locked.
What is vote-locking?
Vote-locking is the process of locking WAIFUS for a defined period in exchange for veWAIFUS. Lock duration determines voting power.
Min. lock: 1 week Max. lock: 4 years
Longer locks produce higher veWAIFUS balances.
Why does veWAIFUS decay?
veWAIFUS decays linearly over the lock duration. As the unlock date approaches, voting power decreases until it reaches zero at expiry.
This ensures governance influence reflects remaining commitment.
What is the boost mechanism?
The boost mechanism increases mining emissions for LP positions when the user holds veWAIFUS.
Boost eligibility requires:
An active veWAIFUS lock
LP tokens staked in a gauge-enabled vault
Boost scales based on veWAIFUS balance and LP position size.
How is boost calculated?
Boost is determined by:
veWAIFUS balance
Amount of LP tokens staked
Vault-specific parameters
Higher veWAIFUS balances increase the proportion of boosted emissions received.
Does locking WAIFUS increase token supply?
No. Locking converts WAIFUS into non-transferable veWAIFUS. It does not mint new WAIFUS tokens.
How are veWAIFUS emissions distributed?
veWAIFUS emissions are currently distributed through the WAIFUS mining vault.
Additional vault eligibility may be approved through governance.
Can projects distribute their own tokens through gauges?
Yes. Projects may allocate a portion of their token supply for liquidity mining. Distribution across vaults is determined by veWAIFUS gauge voting.
How often are gauge weights updated?
Gauge weights update on a recurring schedule based on active veWAIFUS votes. If votes are not changed, prior allocations persist.
Can I have multiple WAIFUS locks?
No. Only one active lock per wallet is permitted. You may extend the lock duration or add additional WAIFUS to the existing lock.
When can I withdraw locked WAIFUS?
WAIFUS can be withdrawn only after the lock period expires and veWAIFUS balance has fully decayed to zero.
Is veWAIFUS transferable?
No. veWAIFUS cannot be transferred, sold, or traded. It represents governance voting power only.
